Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for the second time in a month as frustrations spilled over during Manchester United’s clash with West Ham.

The United boss kicked a water bottle in anger after referee Jonathan Moss booked midfielder Paul Pogba for an apparent dive during the first half of Sunday’s Premier League encounter at Old Trafford.

It was the latest in a catalogue of disciplinary issues involving Mourinho, who recently served a touchline ban.

Mourinho was last sent to the stands during United’s goalless draw with Burnley at the end of October for disputing a decision.

That came after another incident when his behaviour was scrutinised following a rancorous touchline conversation with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

He was also fined for comments about referee Anthony Taylor prior to his side’s draw at Liverpool in October.

For the visit of West Ham, Mourinho sprang a surprise by naming Bastian Schweinsteiger among the substitutes.

It was the first time the 32-year-old World Cup winner had featured in a matchday squad since the Portuguese took charge in the summer.

Schweinsteiger was frozen out by Mourinho earlier in the season and had a spell training away from the first team.

His recall came about as Michael Carrick failed to make the teamsheet amid reports he had suffered a muscle strain.

Schweinsteiger, who last played for United in March, was invited back to first-team training late last month.

It remains to be seen whether the German still has much of a future at the club, with reports having linked him with a move in the January transfer window.

Schweinsteiger was joined on the bench by captain Wayne Rooney, who was one goal short of equalling Sir Bobby Charlton’s club record of 249.

There was no place in the squad for either Luke Shaw or Anthony Martial.
