Neuer, Sommer & the best goalkeepers at UEFA EURO 2016

We take a look at the best goalkeeper choices for the official Euro 2016 fantasy football game, ahead of the tournament getting underway in France in the next week

With UEFA EURO 2016 one week away, it’s time to select your team for the official fantasy game, brought to you by McDonald’s. With some great prizes up for grabs including a Hisense smartphone, adidas boots, shirts and balls plus the official competition video game, we’re going to be helping you select your team by profiling the standout stars per position.

First up, here’s our four goalkeeper tips…

MANUEL NEUER (GERMANY) – €6M

Manuel Neuer is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and has racked up 64 caps for Germany. He’s a costly figure, but you get what you pay for in terms of world class performances.

Neuer is a confirmed starter for Germany, and in a group with Northern Ireland, Poland and Ukraine, you’d expect the shot-stopper to keep Germany in safe hands.

IKER CASILLAS (SPAIN) – €5.5M

The most experienced goalkeeper at the tournament by some distance is Iker Casillas. Since making his debut in 2000, Casillas has appeared 166 times. Although there are many who would like to see David de Gea in goal, Vicente del Bosque is likely to stick by the Porto goalkeeper.

Casillas is Spain captain and their most experienced star; he has won all there is to be won for his country, so he has a clear understanding of what needs to be done.

YANN SOMMER (SWITZERLAND) – €5M

The Swiss goalkeeper comes into the Euros on the back of a brilliant season with Borussia Monchengladbach and will be aware a great tournament in France could lead to a summer move to one of Europe’s big boys.

With 17 international caps under his belt, the goalkeeper is a shoo-in to start all of Switzerland’s fixtures in Euro 2016. In their group lie the hosts, France, as well as Albania and Romania. If all goes to plan, Switzerland should make it into the knockout rounds comfortably.

RUI PATRICIO (PORTUGAL) – €5M

The 28-year-old Portuguese international has been around the squad for 6 years now and an experienced veteran is vital to have if the young Portugal squad is to progress into the knockout rounds.

Having 43 appearances to his name is crucially important to handle the pressure on the big stage. With Hungary, Austria and Iceland in their group, Portugal should safely finish top.
