The moment Cheng Long won the final, he cried immediately, and during the award ceremony, Cheng Long cried for the second time in the match.
When asked about his feeling of winning Gold medal, Chen Long was grateful for his senior in the world of badminton, Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei. “They are the greatest badminton players of this generation. Both of them taught me a lot, from losing them in the start, until victory today, this is all a process of keep learning and improving. I have finally won, and I am very happy, and very grateful to them as well.”
“Lee Chong Wei is a player I have a lot of respect with. However I cannot be reserve about myself because of my respect for him. Giving the best I can is my way of showing my respect to him. I have significant lesser stress than Chong Wei, where he have to take the burden of country all by himself.”
After winning his semi-final, Chen Long only agreed to answer one question from media. Regarding this, he explained: “Brother Dan (Lin Dan) said before that the more attention you get, the more pressured you will feel. He wish to focus his energy on the match, and I think the same as well.”
“Answering 1 question only indeed will affect the work of journalist and reporter, but I felt that since the competition is not over yet, and everyone will have a lot of questions to ask, and I only wish to say something simple, and focus my energy and effort for the preparation of the match instead.”
