Lee Chong Wei Apologized to Malaysian: “I have done My Best.”

Our Champion, current World’s number 1 Lee Chong Wei could not defeat Chen Long in Olympic Badminton Final, winning silver medal for the third time in Olympic. After the match, Lee on multiple times apologized to Malaysian with tears in his eyes, and said he have given his best for this competition.

Chong Wei has failed to beat his arch rival Lin Dan in the past 2 Olympics and ended up with silver medal. This time however, Lee has broke into a new level by defeating Lin Dan in the semi finals, this gave Malaysian a lot of hope that this is the time Lee can bring the gold medal back to our country, however, he lost Chen Long in a very close match.

This means Malaysia has missed another chance to win our very own gold medal. When interviewed, Lee said: “I must accept the loss, opponent play better than me, and I have already exhibited 100% of my performance. Indeed I am very nervous with this match, but compared to the previous 2 Olympics, I have certainly performed better this time.”

Lee was 7 years older than Chen Long, which put him in disadvantage when it comes to stamina. When asked if this is the reason of losing the match, he said: “Chen Long has saved a lot of balls in the match, and his play style has matured. When I was leading in the first game,  I realized that his play style has changed and this made me worried.”

When talked about his feeling of winning the silver medal for the third time, Lee was almost in tears and apologized to Malaysian, his coach, and family. “It is a fact that I have to accept that I won silver only for 3 Olympic. I know I’m not the only one who are disappointed, all Malaysian is disappointed and I must apologize to them as well. To be frank my mind is quite in blanks now, and I only hope Malaysian will keep supporting for the badminton team in future.”

“I know that my family must be feeling disappointed as well, but I has tried my best, and I know I can’t do anything else for now other than apologize.”

Lee however is satisfied with Malaysia’s mixed double and men’s double’s performance, he hope the juniors will keep on improving themselves in the future and reach for their goals in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
