Roy Hodgson resigned on Monday after four years at the helm following England’s shambolic 2-1 defeat to Iceland in the last 16 of Euro 2016.

Several candidates have emerged as his potential successor, but the FA must first decide what sort of manager they require as they seek to try and end England’s dismal record at major tournaments.

Gareth Southgate is still among the favourites despite reports on Thursday morning that he has ruled himself out of the running, but who else is in the mix?
