Manchester United started Europa League with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Feyenoord.

Tonny Vilhena of Feyenoord scored the winning goal 11 minutes before the match end, making Jose Mourinho and his squad defeated two times consecutively after they lost the Manchester derby on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho admitted that Europa League was not his priority after his player’s 2-1 defeat in Manchester derby. So it is not surprise to see him change his starting line-up. David de Gea, Eric Bailly and Paul Pogba were the only one that get retained in the line-up as Mourinho made eight changes. Full-time back players like Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian made their first competitive appearances under the new manager, while Marcus Rashford, Chris Smalling and Morgan Schneiderlin were given their first starts. It was an opportunity for squad players to impress, but none of them took advantage.

During the Saturday game against Manchester City that Red Devils obviously got out-manuvered, Mourinho will be more concerned with United’s defense against Feyenoord rather than their offense. It is clear in this match as well that how easily United’s formation can get carved open, and Mourinho’s defence still looks like a work-in-progress.

After starting the season with three consecutive wins, the last two matches seems to be a reality check for the Red Devils. Manchester Derby shows that United is still behind their biggest rival, but their next match should be optimistic playing against Watford.
