The former Everton boss was subjected to jeers from his own supporters after his side were beaten 2-0 by Spain in an international friendly in Brussels on Thursday

Roberto Martinez was booed by Belgium fans after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Spain in his first game in charge of the national team on Thursday.

The former Everton manager replaced Marc Wilmots at the Red Devils helm following Euro 2016, but the Spaniard endured a tough reception on his maiden appearance in the dugout on home soil.

Martinez and his side were greeted with boos as they left the field for the interval when trailing 1-0 to Spain, who went in front thanks to David Silva’s first-half strike in the international friendly.

Silva got on the scoresheet again after the break when converting from the spot after Nolito was fouled by Jordan Lukaku inside the penalty area, extracting further scorn from the home crowd.

And whistles also rang round the King Baudouin Stadium when Martinez withdrew Kevin De Bruyne for Steven Defour towards the end of the game.
