The Promise of Lin Dan: “I won’t Retire if Lee Chong Wei is not Retiring!”

“As long as Chong Wei is still playing, I won’t retire!”

A short & clear statement is made by Chong Wei’s arch rival, Lin Dan,  when asked about will him retire after Olympic.

But to say Lin and Lee is arch rival is oversimplifying. Not only they are rival on badminton field, they have become admirer for each other’s badminton skill, constantly improving themselves to overcome each other.

A lot of times, Lin Dan is named as Chong Wei’s nemesis.  From 2008’s Bei Jing Olympic, to 2012 London Olympic, and World Badminton Championship on 2011 & 2013, Asian Game during 2010 & 2014, Chong Wei have lost to Lin Dan in all these events, and his opportunity to be Champion.

When news leaked about Lin Dan’s retirement, he only answered with a simple statement, that he will not retire as long as Lee Chong Wei is still playing. This show how much respect Lin Dan has for Lee Chong Wei’s skill.

However, Lee has announced that this will be the last Olympic he participate in, and perhaps, by missing the chance of winning Gold this time, it is a hint that the curtain is closing for Lee & Lin’s generation.
