FERDINAND HAILS WALKER AS ONE OF THE WORLD’S BEST RIGHT-BACKS

The former Manchester United defender lauded the right-back after he put in a man of the match performance in England’s 2-1 win over neighbours Wales at Euro 2016

Rio Ferdinand hailed Kyle Walker as one of the best right-backs in the world following his man of the match display in England’s 2-1 win over Wales.

The Three Lions found themselves a goal down heading into the interval after Gareth Bale beat Joe Hart with a free-kick from distance in Lens.

But England were able to fight back to claim the bragging rights in the Battle of Britain as substitutes Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge both struck in the second half to break Welsh hearts.

Walker played a key role in his side’s dominance throughout the entirety of the clash at Stade Bollaert-Delelis and afterwards ex-England international Ferdinand was full of praise for the Tottenham man.

“If you look at Kyle Walker’s pace and intensity, he is like a machine,” Ferdinand told the BBC.

“He puts the opposition full-back under pressure. He asks whether you are ready to run with me and if not, he will motor past you.

“There might be questions on how he plays in his own third, but as for when you are on the front foot, I don’t think there are many better in the world. He is like a winger.”

England currently sit top of Group B on four points and face Slovakia in their next game in Saint-Etienne on Monday.
