Germany manager Joachim Low apologises for touchline antics

Germany manager Joachim Low has apologised after television cameras caught him putting his hands down his trousers during his side’s opening match of Euro 2016.

The reigning world champions opened their Euro 2016 Group C campaign with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine in Lille on Sunday night.

But it was Low’s antics on the touchline that dominated the post-match reaction, with the 56-year-old widely ridiculed on social media after twice being caught putting his hands down his trousers.

“It was adrenaline and concentration. I will try to behave differently in the future,” Low said.

“I saw the pictures and obviously sometimes you do things subconsciously. It happened and I am sorry.”

The incidents at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy are just the latest bodily indiscretion from Low, who has in the past been caught by cameras picking his nose during Germany games.

Germany can secure their place in the last-16 of Euro 2016 with a victory over Poland at the Stade de France in Paris on Thursday.

They will conclude their Group C campaign with a match against Northern Ireland, again in Paris, on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes.
