France 2-1 Romania PLAYER RATINGS: Dimitri Payet steals the show as Antoine Griezmann goes missing

Dimitri Payet celebrates after capping a fine individual display with a spectacular late winning goal

Dimitri Payet picked up where he left off last season by capping a fine individual display with a late beauty as France made a winning start to Euro 2016.

Bogdan Stancu equalised from the spot after Olivier Giroud opened the scoring with a thumping header at the Stade de France.

Here, Sportsmail’s CRAIG HOPE delivers his verdict on both sets of players.

FRANCE (4-3-3)

Hugo Lloris 6.5 – Crucial save to thwart Romania early goal.

Bacary Sagna 6 – Assured at full-back and kept it simple.

Laurent Koscielny 6 – Steady enough but will be relieved Romanians passed up a couple of great chances.

Adil Rami 6 – Not a great deal to trouble the Seville centre-back.

Patrice Evra 6 – Needless challenge to concede penalty marred otherwise decent display.

Paul Pogba 7 – Showed his class with raking and incisive passes and unlucky not to score with fine volley.

N’Golo Kante 7 – Covered every blade, as expected, and knitted things together in midfield.

Blaise Matuidi 6.5 – Industrious but lacking killer ball in final third.

Antoine Griezmann 5.5 – Disappointing display, much more expected from Atletico Madrid wideman.
