GERMANY’S RUDIGER OUT OF EURO 2016

The defender, who remains a transfer target for Chelsea despite signing a permanent deal with Roma, damaged his cruciate ligament in training with the national team

Germany defender Antonio Rudiger has been ruled out of Euro 2016 after damaging his cruciate ligament in training.

The 23-year-old full-back had been set to take part in his first major international tournament after impressing while on loan at Roma this season.

Despite his signing a permanent contract with the Giallorossi, Goal understands that he remains a transfer target for Chelsea, although the extent of his injury could now potentially affect any move to Stamford Bridge.

Rudiger suffered the injury during a public training session on Tuesday which neither of Sami Khedira or Jerome Boateng completed as well, though the latter pair were understood to be merely taking precautionary measures.

Germany have yet to announce whether or not they will call a replacement player into Joachim Low’s squad.
