Zlatan Ibrahimovic is poised to become Jose Mourinho’s first signing when he takes over at Manchester United and will be handed Anthony Martial’s number 9 shirt upon arrival, reported the Sun.

Mourinho has agreed terms on a three-year deal worth £60m to become United’s new manager, and is to be officially confirmed in the position imminently. Mourinho has worked with the Swedish striker before, and United are also closing in on confirming the 34-year-old as their first signing of the summer.

The Paris Saint Germain striker, who will leave the club on a free transfer, is ready to sign for United on an initial one-year contract worth £10m. But his arrival could prompt a shake up of the squad numbers at Old Trafford.

Martial, who has enjoyed a stunning first season at the club following his arrival from Monaco, will shift to Memphis Depay’s number 7 shirt as a result, with the Dutchman’s future up in the air after an underwhelming first campaign. He has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but this week confirmed he was happy at the club and looking forward to the new season.

Memphis was given the number after Angel Di Maria was sold to PSG last summer, but is now at risk of losing the treasured jersey to his fellow attacker. Which number the Dutchman switches to – or even whether he stays at the club – is uncertain.

The report also claims that Bastian Schweinsteiger, Antonio Valencia and Adnan Januzaj will be the first players to leave United when Mourinho takes over. The former Chelsea boss could be handed as much as £270m in his first summer in charge of the club in order to change the face of the team and bring in a host of new signings.
